Five scam call centres busted, 38 arrested

PETALING JAYA: A total of 38 people were detained following raids on several online scam call centres in the Klang Valley.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said five call centres located at condominiums in Ampang and Cyberjaya were raided on Monday.

“We detained 31 men and seven women in the raids, including two foreigners. We also seized equipment – 31 laptops, 54 mobile phones, three modems and a set of keys.”

“The syndicate has been operating for about two weeks, targeting victims from China.

“We cannot ascertain the total losses as the victims are Chinese citizens,” he said.

Investigations revealed that the syndicate members were employed to contact victims via phone and social media.

“They duped victims by posing as friends or conducting e-commerce scams,” Comm Hussein said.

He warned that stern action would be taken against anyone involved with scam syndicates.
