Johor cops seize contraband beer and liquor, foreigner detained

MUAR: A 44-year-old foreign man has been arrested to help with investigations into a smuggling case involving beer and liquor with unpaid duties worth nearly RM19,000.

Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the arrest was made at a premises at Parit Jamil, Parit Jawa here at 10pm on Tuesday (May 23).

“The man who worked as the keeper of the premises was arrested for being involved in a smuggling case of contraband alcohol.

“Inspection inside the premises found 134 bottles of liquor and 105 cans of beer with unpaid duties worth RM18,693,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (May 24).

A background check revealed that the suspect has no prior record, and the case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967 for smuggling untaxed goods, which carries a fine of not less than 10 times the value of the goods or RM100,000, whichever is higher.
