PETALING JAYA: A total of 67 people have been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in connection with false claims made under the Penjana Kerjaya hiring incentive programme involving RM63mil.
The arrests were made during Ops Hire 2.0 which began recently nationwide.
The operation also froze bank accounts belonging to the suspects involving a total of RM3.2mil, Utusan Malaysia reported.
It quoted sources that the suspects arrested were company owners, directors or managers.
All the suspects have been brought to court and remanded to facilitate the investigations by MACC.
The report cited sources saying that MACC was currently tracking down the assets that were bought by the suspects as some of them were believed to have misappropriated the programme funds for personal use.
"MACC also has confiscated two luxury vehicles that were said to have been purchased using the funds in question," the source said.
MACC senior investigations director Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hashim said MACC was currently in the process of wrapping up the investigations before proceeding to the next course of action, according to the report.
The case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
