JOHOR BARU: Forty-four cooks, 10 woks, 365kg of flat rice noodles – and a new world record for the largest serving of char koay teow.
The effort made it into the Guinness World Records (GWR) when the participants gathered at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre here to fry the popular Malaysian favourite concurrently in the 10 woks.
GWR adjudicator Kazuyoshi Kirimura declared the attempt a success on Thursday night.
He congratulated the organiser and participants for their effort, which saw the cooks frying the flat rice noodles with bean sprouts, bean curd and seasoning sauces.
The cooks were divided into small groups of four or five and made the dish in several batches before the noodles were weighed and recorded.
Tourism Johor director Suhairi Hashim, who was among those who participated in the great cookout, said they completed the task in about 30 minutes.
“The record was made in conjunction with the World Chefs Championship here,” he said.
The three-day event, which ends today, saw 1,498 chefs from numerous countries including Singapore, Taiwan, Australia and Canada, taking part.
“The char koay teow was then served to those in attendance and the rest packed and distributed to the other participants.
“We hope the achievement will help to put Johor on the map as a foodie destination as the state has a wide offering of delicious fare,” he added.
