Penang assembly will be dissolved in last two weeks of June, says CM

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang state assembly will be dissolved sometime in the last two weeks of June, says Chow Kon Yeow.

The Penang Chief Minister said this was agreed among the six states set to face elections this year.

"Each state has their own upcoming events to take into consideration before setting a date.

"We have decided to stick to the last two weeks of June... we are sure it will be then," he said during a press conference held at his office in Komtar on Friday (May 19).

It was reported that although the dissolution dates of the six state assemblies may differ, Pakatan Harapan, its allies and Perikatan Nasional have agreed to simultaneous state polls.

The Selangor state assembly is set to automatically dissolve on June 26 and elections must be held within 60 days by Aug 26.

The Kelantan state assembly will automatically dissolve on June 28, Terengganu on July 1, Negri Sembilan on July 2, Kedah on July 4 and Penang on Aug 2.
