GEORGE TOWN: Police have arrested a man and his girlfriend for allegedly robbing a foreign national at knife-point in a laundrette in Central Seberang Prai on April 30.
State police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said police also arrested another woman in her 20s for being accomplice.
"The incident happened when the victim was doing her laundry at the shop in Bukit Tengah," he said in a press conference at the state police headquarters here on Monday. (May 8)
Comm Mohd Shuhaily said the culprits had robbed the victim of jewellery and mobile phone before escaping with the female accomplice who had been waiting outside the laundrette.
He said following the report, police detained the suspect and his girlfriend, who were both in their 20s, at a hotel in Butterworth at 5.15pm on May 4.
"We also arrested another woman who we believed to be an accomplice at the same hotel," he said, adding investigations found the group targeted foreigners in their criminal activities.
He said the male suspect was found positive with drugs, while the other two suspects tested negative.
The suspects were remanded for seven days until May 11 to facilitate investigations under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code for robbery using a weapon.
