KUALA LUMPUR: The seat distribution among component parties under the unity government for the upcoming six state elections is still ongoing and expected to be concluded soon, says Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.
The Umno secretary-general said that the discussions shown between parties were "positive and constructive".
"So far, we can see that the cooperation specifically for the six state elections between Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan is good," he told a press conference at Menara Dato Onn on Friday (May 5).
He said all parties were trying to focus on translating the good cooperation at the national leadership level and bringing it to the grassroot level.
"So, our upcoming unity government national convention is heading towards that," he said.
The unity government convention will be held on May 14, at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre.
Asked whether there were some overlapping seat issues in certain states such as Selangor, he said that there were overlapping claims in all six states.
"This is because Barisan used to contest against Pakatan and vice-versa.
"Surely there are overlapping claims but discussions are ongoing.
"I also just received the reports just now and what I can say there have been positive and constructive," he added.
Asked whether there was a cut-off date on seat distributions, Dr Asyraf said that it may be extended until before the nomination day.
"As mentioned by Umno deputy president (Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan), our cut-off date is until nominations day," said Dr Asyraf.
