Muda to reveal official position over six state elections soon, says Amira

JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) will soon be making an official announcement on its position with regards to the upcoming elections involving six states, says party deputy president Amira Aisya Abd Aziz.

Amira said that to date, the party has yet to have any discussions with other parties under Pakatan Harapan.

"However, we have held several internal talks among party members with regards to the elections. We will soon be having a press conference where we will reveal our official position with regards to the six state elections.

"Our focus is not on getting seats, but to make sure whoever is chosen to contest in the elections, are able to defend principles and policies that we have been championing all this while," she said.

Amira, who is also Puteri Wangsa assemblyman, said this when met after meeting with traders at the Desa Mutiara people’s housing projects (PPR) here on Friday (May 5).

She said this when asked if there have been any discussions with other parties with regards to seat negotiations for the six state elections.

Asked if there is possibility of Muda contesting solo in the elections, she said that the matter has yet to be decided.

"I cannot confirm now whether there is such a possibility (contesting solo). Muda's position is still unclear at the moment, but we will make an official announcement as soon as possible," she said.

Asked if the official announcement will include the number of seats the party will be contesting, she said that the matter will be revealed later.

"On the number of seats, we will focus on that later on.

"For now, the focus is on Muda's position and the principles the party will stand for in the elections," she said.

In February, Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said that the six states, which polls are due this year, have reached an understanding to dissolve their respective state assemblies in the last two weeks of June.

The six states are Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.
