MPs agree with Johor Ruler’s call for more stable govt

PETALING JAYA: Following the call for stability by the Sultan of Johor, political leaders say the ruler’s words should be heeded for the people’s sake.

Umno secretary-general Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said he supported the stand of Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar that any move to create political instability will affect the country negatively.

“People are fed up with all sorts of politicking. The bitter experience post-GE 14 really affected the people’s livelihood,” he said.

“Political instability definitely costs the country much and affects the economy and the people at large.

“Any provocations to topple the government will only make people suffer,” he said.

Natural Resources, Environ-ment and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said the government remains steadfast and will focus on helping the people amid the talk of a power grab.

Nik Nazmi, who is Setiawangsa MP and PKR chief organising secretary, slammed “irresponsible parties” for trying to create instability in the political arena.

“This mischievous group is from parties that cannot accept the GE15 results,” he said.

Opposition MP Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan said they in the Perikatan agreed with and appreciated the Sultan’s “wisdom”, but claimed certain Pakatan Harapan and Umno leaders were publicly trading barbs over various political issues.

“It is Pakatan and Umno who should take heed of the Sultan’s very wise and important advice.

“I have always said Perikatan does not have to do anything; this government’s infighting will cause its own downfall.

“They fail to prioritise the economy and the people’s welfare, instead they are obsessed with political manoeuvring to stay in power,” claimed the Tasek Gelugor MP from Bersatu.

Kubang Pasu MP Datuk Dr Ku Abd Rahman Ku Ismail agreed on the importance of unity, adding that both sides should prioritise the rakyat’s interests considering the uncertain economic outlook.

“The government should take the lead in showing unity.

“Why are Umno leaders and Pakatan component parties publicly arguing over various issues such as getting a pardon for former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak?” said Ku Abd Rahman, also from Bersatu.

“Just do your work for the people and move forward together,” he said.

An online news portal recently claimed that 10 MPs who had supported Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister after GE15 were involved in a plot to overthrow the unity government.
