KUALA LUMPUR: A new era in senior care was unveiled at AGExpo, held concurrently with the Home Design and Interior Exhibition (HOMEDEC) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (April 28-May 1).
HOMEDEC which celebrates its 20th anniversary is a comprehensive sourcing platform for home designs, refurbishments and renovation, while AGExpo (Asean Senior Care & Wellness Expo), in its second edition, offers solutions for senior care.
“The silver-haired economy can be a boon to our country. There are huge opportunities on the horizon if we act now to create a better tomorrow, as all of us will age,” said AGExpo organiser Datuk Vincent Lim at the opening ceremony, officiated by Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.
“Let us work together to build a nation that truly cares, where everyone has access to quality healthcare and support services especially older persons,” said Nancy.
“Together, we can pave the way for a brighter and more prosperous future for Malaysia,” she said.
AGExpo is jointly organised with the National Council of Senior Citizens Organisation Malaysia (Nacscom) and in collaboration with the Malaysian Coalition on Ageing.
A World Bank report in November 2020 stated that Malaysia would transition from an ageing society to an aged society in just 24 years, similar to Japan and other high-income economies.
By 2044, 14% of the population will make up an “aged society”, and by 2056, we will be a “super-aged society” with over 20% of the population above the age of 65.
