Ministry to focus on repairing, replacing dilapidated houses in Kedah, says Zahid

BALING: The Rural and Regional Development Ministry will focus on building new houses, as well as repairing dilapidated houses, in Kedah in an effort to provide comfortable homes for the people in the state, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Deputy Prime Minister said the ministry had identified some settlement areas having dilapidated houses and was waiting for a complete list from the Kedah Regional Development Authority (Keda).

"We are still waiting for the complete list to know the actual number of houses that need repair or require the building of new ones," he said.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Rural and Regional Development Minister, said this after a walkabout programme at Desa Keda Sadek here Thursday (April 27).

He said the focus will be on the Baling district which had been hit by floods 11 times during the 15th General Election.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid said the ministry, through Keda, had built eight units of semi-detached houses at the Settlement Programme for the Hardcore Poor (PPRT) in Desa Keda Sadek last year, involving an allocation of RM528,000. - Bernama
