Body of missing Kulai senior found floating in lake

KULAI: The body of a male senior citizen was found floating in a lake on Wednesday (April 19), four days after he was reported missing on Saturday (April 15).

Kulai Fire and Rescue station chief Fairuz Helmi Mohd Ali said the body was discovered at a lake along the Taman Gemilang Suasa 1 jungle trail at 11.55am Wednesday.

He said the deceased was identified as 62-year-old Liew You Foo, who was reported missing by his family at 3.29pm on April 15 after the victim failed to return home.

"According to the victim’s son, his father usually returned home at around 2pm whenever he went out but never came back on that fateful day," Fairuz Helmi said.

He said a search and rescue (SAR) team was mobilised to the scene upon receiving a distress call from the victim’s son on April 15.

Fairuz Helmi said 19 firemen from the Kulai and Skudai Fire stations were involved in the operation with one Fire Rapid Tender vehicle, two 4WD vehicles, a Fire Rapid Vehicle and a boat.

"The operation was conducted in a roughly 5km radius from the main road at the last location where the victim was seen," he said.

Fairuz Helmi said the operation continued until 10pm on April 15, assisted by nine policemen and 27 civilians covering a 3km radius.

He added that the SAR operation continued on April 18 at 10am in a cliff area of the lake where the victim’s body was found.

Fairuz Helmi said the body had been handed over to police for further action and the operation ended at 1.15pm.
