KUALA LUMPUR: The letter from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said only provided an update on investigations into certain individuals, says Datuk Ahmad Rosli Mohd Sham.
The MACC panel review chairman said the letter, which was leaked and went viral on social media, was not meant to provide any "answers".
Ahmad Rosli said MACC was only empowered to investigate and prepare a report that would be forwarded to the Attorney General (AG) for further action.
"If the AG decides against prosecution, the report can also be forwarded to heads of departments for them to take disciplinary action," he told Malay-language daily Berita Harian.
Ahmad Rosli was asked to comment on claims there had been interference by the executive into the judiciary.
He also told Berita Harian that it was not MACC's practice to recommend to a minister or deputy public prosecutors whether a case should proceed with prosecution.
