Four nabbed, contraband booze seized in KL

KUALA LUMPUR: Four men have been arrested in connection with storing and distributing smuggled alcoholic beverages at a premises in Jalan Ipoh here.

Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Beh Eng Lai said personnel from the General Operations Force and Sentul police headquarters raided the storage area at 1.55pm on Saturday (March 25).

"We detained two local men and two foreign men aged between 15 and 41 years old.

"A total of 14,832 bottles of liquor and 7,464 cans of beer were seized from the premises," he said in a statement on Tuesday (March 28).

Initial investigations revealed that the syndicate has been operating for about six months, supplying the smuggled alcohol to sundry shops in Sentul, ACP Beh said.

"We have identified the syndicate's mastermind and we are tracking him down.

"The suspects detained have been remanded until April 4 for further investigation," he added.

He appealed to the public to cooperate by supplying information that could curb smuggling activities.

"We urge those with information on the case to contact the Sentul police operations room at 03-40482206," he said.
