State polls: Barisan-Pakatan seat negotiations still ongoing, says Gobind

KLANG: KLANG: Discussions between Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional on seat allocations for the upcoming state polls have not been completed yet, says Gobind Singh Deo.

"Several discussions have been held to ascertain the distribution of seats to be contested in the upcoming state election. We hope the process will be settled soon," said the DAP deputy chairman.

Speaking at the Selangor DAP annual convention on Sunday (March 26), he said those who want to form a new government, claiming that the Federal Government is unstable must be rejected.

"Statements such as those are to cover-up their own weaknesses, especially when they took over in 2020 after the Sheraton Move," he said.

Gobind said in order to win big in the state election, it must be shown that the level of cooperation within the party is strong.

"We have to always remember that the basis of the party is to uplift democracy, freedom, sovereignty and ensure equality and fairness for all," said Gobind.

Meanwhile, party secretary-general Anthony Loke said that DAP was a punching bag for government detractors.

"We are now in the Federal Government and will definitely be targeted by opponents," said Loke during his address.

He said opponents continue alleging that DAP is a threat to the Federal administration or will malign Malays and Muslims.

"With patience and consistency, we will succeed in deflecting allegations and maintain the government's performance, " he said.

He said that DAP had proven that it is a loyal and reliable partner in the Selangor state government.

"Our leaders have played various roles – not only as representatives but also as Speaker and various roles in local government such as councillors and village heads.

"This shows that the DAP can perform as a government," he said.
