Floods: Number of victims in Batu Pahat drops to 7,972


JOHOR BARU: The number of flood victims in Batu Pahat has dropped to 7,972 people at 8pm on Monday (March 20) from 10,396 people at 8am the same day.

The state Disaster Management Committee said that a total of 2,299 families are still seeking shelter at 44 temporary relief centres (PPS).

"As of 8pm Monday, the number of evacuees in Batu Pahat is 7,972 and seven PPS have been closed since 8am.

"The PPS with the highest number of victims is at SK Seri Aman with 552 people and SJKC Li Chun with 522 people," it said in a statement here.

Three water level recording stations in Batu Pahat have also reported a declining trend at the river level in the district.

The rivers are Sungai Bekok (19.12m), Sungai Sembrong (11.27m), and Sungai Senggarang (3.28m).
