Umno polls: Ku Li returns as Gua Musang division chief

KUALA LUMPUR: Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah has returned as Gua Musang Umno division chief.

The 85-year old defeated two other contenders - Che Mohd Izani Che Musa and Datuk Saari Lembut - in a three-cornered fight for the post.

The win means that Tengku Razaleigh, popularly known as Ku Li, is Umno’s longest serving division head.

He has held the post for more than 50 years, since it was known as Ulu Kelantan.

Another Umno stalwart has also managed to defend his division chief post.

Kemaman Umno chief Datuk Seri Ahmad Said remained as division chief for the 2023-2026 term after he defeated his contender, Datuk Seri Mohamed Rahim Hussin.

Ahmad, 66, who was a former Terengganu mentri besar, secured 491 votes while Mohamed Rahim obtained 286.

Earlier, 189 out of 191 Umno divisions held its elections.

The polls for the three vice-president seats as well as the 25 supreme council members were also held on Saturday (March 18).
