Alor Gajah council helps to legalise beach chalets

MELAKA: The Alor Gajah Municipal Council (MPAG) is in the midst of assisting chalet operators along Pengkalan Balak beach to legalise their businesses, said council president Saifuddin Abdul Karim.

He said 59 of the 141 chalet operators in the area have obtained the temporary building permit, while other properties are undergoing a “whitening” process.

“We will give a grace period of one year to have them licensed with the help of the constituency assemblyman, the district lands and mines office and the association representing the operators,” he said after hosting a dinner with local media practitioners at a leading hotel here on Tuesday.

Saifuddin said chalet operators would be asked to conform to the law by having the necessary permission to host guests.

Separately, he said the MPAG has approved 13 places as markets and three places as bazaars during Ramadan.

Saifuddin said the markets will be at Taman Bandar Satelit Pulau Sebang; Pulau Sebang town; Taman Sri Sutera, Pengkalan; Alor Gajah town; Jelatang; Taman Rembia Perkasa; Kampung Parit Melana; Masjid Tanah Industrial Park (Londang); Kuala Sungai Baru; Masjid Tanah; Taman Seri Gamelan; Lubok China; and Taman Bandar Baru Simpang Empat.

The bazaar sites will be at Taman Bandar Satelit Pulau Sebang, Masjid Tanah Sentral and Taman Bandar Baru Masjid Tanah.
