Overlapping claims reason for delay in flood aid distribution, says Terengganu MB

KUALA TERENGGANU, 13 Jan -- Menteri Besar Terengganu Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar pada sidang media selepas Majlis Pelancaran dan Memperkenalkan Pelumba Pasukan 2023 malam tadi. Terengganu Polygon Cycling Team merupakan pasukan yang diurus tadbir oleh Terengganu Pro-Asia Cycling Team (TPCT) dinobatkan sebagai juara Jelajah Asia UCI dengan memenangai 118 podium serta berada pada kedudukan ke-31 dunia daripada 212 pasukan profesional yang bertanding. KUALA TERENGGANU: Overlapping claims have been identified as the reason for the delay in the distribution of cash aid to flood victims in Terengganu, says Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar (pic).

According to Ahmad Samsuri, some married couples had submitted similar claims in different areas for their own benefit.

He said such irresponsible actions forced the Village Development and Security Committee to conduct extra reviews to ensure the distribution was done fairly and equitably.

"There are two districts that have not submitted the list (of beneficiaries) because of this problem (of overlapping claims).

"There are even cases of those not eligible sending in claims. This has caused delays in the distribution process to truly deserving victims," he said after officiating the 2023 Terengganu Carnival for Persons with Disabilities at Dataran Batu Buruk here, on Saturday (Feb 18).

Ahmad Samsuri said he had instructed the relevant parties to resolve the issue immediately.

He said over 26,000 heads of households in Terengganu were expected to receive cash assistance of RM1,000 in early March.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Samsuri said he would be attending an official meeting on Thursday in Kuala Lumpur with the leaders of five other states - Kelantan, Kedah, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor and Penang - to discuss the date for state polls to be held. - Bernama
