Hasmuni to contest for Umno Youth chief’s post

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth secretary Datuk Hasmuni Hassan has offered himself as a candidate for the Umno Youth chief’s post in the party's upcoming election.

The Kubang Pasu Umno Youth chief also introduced his team - including Larkin assemblyman Mohd Hairi Mad Shah, who is also the Johor Umno Youth chief - who will run for the post of party Youth vice chief.

Others in his team who will be appointed if he succeeds in winning are Merlimau assemblyman Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh, who is also the Melaka Umno Youth vice chief, as Umno Youth secretary; Mohd Naim Mokhtar as Umno Youth treasurer and Mohd Sollehin Mohamad Tajie (Umno Youth information chief).

Hasmuni appealed for support from all Umno Youth representatives at the divisional level to enable him and his team to continue the struggle for religion, race and country.

"My main focus, and that of my team, is to win GE16 (16th General Election) and ensure the support of youths returns to Umno and Barisan Nasional," he said at a special press conference here.

Recently, Subang Umno chief Datuk Armand Azha Abu Hanifah offered himself as a candidate for the Umno Youth chief’s post in the 2023 party election.

On Jan 12, Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki confirmed that he would not be defending the Youth chief’s post in the next party election during the Umno Youth assembly.

The Umno elections are being held from Feb 1-March 18, with the branch-level elections to be held between Feb 1 and 26, followed by the elections for the Wanita, Youth and Puteri wings at the national level on March 11.

The Umno divisional delegates' meetings and committee elections as well as contests for seats in the supreme council will be held simultaneously nationwide on March 18. - Bernama
