Bangladeshi worker fined RM5,000 for outraging teen's modesty

MELAKA: A Bangladeshi factory worker has been fined RM5,000 by the Magistrate's Court here after he pleaded guilty to a charge of outraging the modesty of a 19-year-old girl.

The plea of the accused, 27-year-old Sushant Shah, was recorded before Magistrate Mazana Sinin on Wednesday (Feb 8) after the charge was read out by a court interpreter in English.

The court also ordered him to be jailed six months if he failed to pay the fine.

According to the charge sheet, Sushant had touched the teenager's buttocks outside a convenience store in Bachang Permai, Bachang at 9.10pm on Jan 14.

He fled the scene after the act but was pursued by the teenager and her friend, who confronted the accused at a nearby hostel.

Sushant, who was unrepresented, was charged under Section 354 of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum 10 years' imprisonment, or a fine, or caning, or both, upon conviction.
