JB cops nab man high on drugs after high-speed chase

JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested a 28-year-old man after a high-speed chase on Jalan Datin Halimah, here.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the incident occurred at 6pm on Friday (Feb 3) when a patrol team saw a car driven in a suspicious manner.

“The patrol team was heading towards Kempas from Johor Baru when they saw the vehicle.

“The driver was then ordered to stop for an inspection. However, the driver suddenly sped off,” he said in a statement here on Saturday (Feb 4).

ACP Raub added that the patrol team then requested for three more MPVs as backup to chase after the suspect.

“The chase ended at Taman Damansara Alif, where a man was arrested and another managed to escape.

“Investigations revealed that the duo had run away from the police as they were under the influence of drugs and afraid of being caught,” he said, adding that the suspect had tested positive for methamphetamine.

A background check revealed that the suspect also has two prior records involving drugs and crime, he added.

“We also confiscated a machete, a hammer, a metal bar, a stick, a silver metal bar, a helmet, and a vehicle.

“We are currently on the hunt for another suspect believed to be in his 20s,” he added.

The suspect is currently under remand until Feb 6 and the case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for voluntarily obstructing a public servant in the discharge of his duty.

It is also investigated under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958 for possessing sharp weapons and Section 42 of the Road and Transport Act 1952 for reckless driving.

Earlier, a 20-second video went viral on TikTok showing a police MPV chasing a vehicle.
