KUALA LUMPUR: An individual’s success or failure is not determined by any honorary titles, says Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu.
According to the Agriculture and Food Security Minister, a person’s image was, instead, determined by the noble efforts of an individual.
“A friend once told me that the Malays respect those with big titles.
“My answer is that in politics and elections, there are those who are Tun, Tan Sri, Datuk Seri and even Datuk, who were defeated by normal individuals.
“Therefore, the issue of titles doesn’t mean whether or not a person is noble,” said Mohamad.
Mohamad said it was important for a leader to be hardworking and also one that regularly contributes to society on various issues.
“Uphold justice, fight all forms of oppression, and also show a noble character that is publicly perceived as a person devoted to community,” said Mohamad.
On the 2023 Federal Territory Day celebration on Feb 1, Mohammad headed the award list, where the Amanah president was conferred Darjah Kebesaran Seri Mahkota Wilayah (SMW), which carries the title “Datuk Seri”.
He also said that titles given by the Malay Rulers and state governors are a sign of the honour bestowed on an individual.
A total of 164 persons were honoured on Wednesday.
