Floods: Number of evacuees in Johor drops to 5,427 as of 2pm Jan 26


JOHOR BARU: There has been a slight drop of displaced flood victims in seven Johor districts, from 5,528 at noon to 5,427 as of 2pm Thursday (Jan 26).

The state Disaster Management Committee said two new temporary relief centres in Kota Tinggi and Mersing have been opened while four centres in Kluang have closed.

“The two new centres are SK Sungai Telur in Kota Tinggi and SK Pangkalan Batu in Mersing.

“The four centres closed in Kluang are Balairaya Batu 6 in Sri Lalang, Balairaya Kampung Muhibbah in Paloh, Balairaya GSA Chamek, and SJK (C) Ping Ming, bringing the total number in operation statewide to 56,” the committee said in a statement.

Segamat still remained the worst-hit district with 1,762 victims, followed by Kluang (1,176), Mersing (1,173), Kota Tinggi (782), Batu Pahat (299), Muar (217) and Pontian (18).
