Daim's wife Mahani Idris passes away


PETALING JAYA: Toh Puan Mahani Idris, the wife of former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin, passed away on Sunday night (Jan 22).

“It is with a heavy heart that we inform all that Mami (Mahani) has peacefully returned to God almighty,” a source close to the family said, quoted by Astro Awani.

The cause of death was not disclosed.

It is understood that the final rites for her funeral were conducted at Masjid Kampung Baru at 10am on Monday (Jan 23) with prayers at Surau Hidayat, Seri Kembangan later before she was laid to rest at the Bukit Kiara Muslim cemetery.

She leaves behind five children.

Mahani’s husband Daim served two terms as finance minister under the administration of retired former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, from 1984 to 1991, and from 1999 to 2001.
