Actress Amelia Henderson has clarified that she was not involved in any “steamy” scenes in the horror flick Pulau, which has been panned by Malaysians for being inappropriate for public viewing.

Harian Metro reported that the 27-year-old star has urged the critics to understand her character in the movie.

“If you feel it’s inappropriate and don’t like it, don’t watch it,” she said.

Amelia explained that the “hot scenes” were not related to the storyline of her character.

“I was only focused on my character,” said the actress, who is of mixed Scottish and Malaysian Indian descent with Ceylonese ancestry.

Pulau recently gained attention for its racy trailer, which featured controversial social media influencer Ms PuiYi making out with a man as well as bikini-clad women.

The film, directed by Euho, has a line-up of actors and internet influencers such as Alif Satar, Ikmal Amry, Joey Leong, Harris Annuar, Evie Feroza, Namron, Mark O’Dea and Sabronzo Dolla.

It will be released in cinemas on March 9.

> According to Kosmo!, Terengganu has the harshest punishments for Muslims who marry without permission. This is to stop its residents from “secretly” marrying abroad in countries like Thailand.

The Islamic Family Law (Terengganu) Enactment 2017, states that not only would the couples face punishment by the Syariah court, but action could also be taken against their guardians and witnesses.

Terengganu Chief Syariah Prosecutor Wan Abd Malik Wan Sidek said a groom could face up to four charges, while the bride could get slapped with two charges.

The guardian and witness could face a charge each, he added.

Each of the charges carries a fine between RM2,000 and RM5,000, in addition to a maximum three-year jail term if convicted.
