PETALING JAYA: After two years of celebrating the new year in a modest manner because of the pandemic, Malaysians are looking forward to welcoming 2023 with a bang, with events and concerts lined up during the final week of 2022.

There is a Countdown 2023 event happening at Sunway Lagoon in Subang Jaya on Dec 31, featuring local artistes like Joe Flizzow and SonaOne, as well as international performers like Havana Brown, R3hab and Alan Walker.

On Dec 30, Konsert Agungnya Cinta featuring nasyid groups like Raihan, Unic and Mirwana as well as singer Naim Daniel will take centrestage at Sime Darby Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

There will also be a three-day music festival at Dataran Pahlawan Melaka from Dec 29 to Jan 1, with the likes of Noki K-Clique, Iman Troye, Azlan & The Typewriter and Kristal.

And on Dec 29, popular Malaysian band Kugiran Masdo and Indonesian group The Changcuters are set to sizzle at Zepp Kuala Lumpur for an almost three-hour jam session. According to Kugiran Masdo’s manager and event director Zulhaili Abd Rani, the venue can accomodate up to 2,300 people.

“So far we have sold 1,600 tickets and we expect the rest to be sold out by the concert date,” he said.

“For every concert we organise, we make sure to hire bodyguards, ushers and extra staff to be on standby to ensure the safety of the fans from every angle possible.

“We will have 50 people just for this. And that number does not include medical staff and an ambulance standing by in case of any medical emergency,” he added.

The organiser also encourages those who are older to purchase the seated tickets as the concert runs almost three hours.

“We have listed items that cannot be brought to the venue such as lighter, cigarette and firecrackers.

“Bags will also be checked by security personnel before fans enter the venue so that everyone in attendance can enjoy the show together without any unwanted incidents,” Zulhaili said.

Meanwhile, in a surprise announcement yesterday, legendary Malaysian singer Datuk Zainal Abidin said he would be holding a New Year’s Eve show for his fans at The Bee in Publika Kuala Lumpur.

Its organiser, Rahul Kukreja of RK Live Asia, said only limited tickets were sold as it was billed as an intimate show.

“We are only limiting to 30 tables – with three pax per table – and some free-standing tickets as Datuk Zainal wants to put together an intimate show.

“This way, too, we can ensure everything is safe for everyone.

“As for any event held at The Bee, we always have professional medic on standby, exits and emergency plans ready, touch wood, should it be required,” Rahul said.
