PONTIAN: A special Umno general assembly will be held to amend two clauses in the party's constitution, says Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan(pic).

The Umno secretary-general said that a notice of the special Umno general assembly has been issued to the division chief, division secretary, Women, Youth and Puteri wings secretaries.

“There are two Umno constitutional clauses that we will amend; first, that all information chiefs will automatically be appointed representatives to the Umno general assembly every year, which is an amendment under Clause 8.4," he said.

“The second amendment is under Clause 20.11. Any Umno member will have their membership revoked if they leave the party after becoming assemblymen or MPs or if they contest as an independent at polls or as a candidate for another party," he added.

Ahmad Maslan said that this revocation will also happen if a party member supports political coalitions that are not also supported by Umno

He said this when met by reporters after visiting his office in Benut, Taman Api Api, here, on Monday (Dec 26)

Ahmad added that under the first amendment, all information chiefs from the divisions, Women, Youth and Puteri wings have never been selected as representatives to the annual Umno general assembly.

He then said that the second amendment is an update to the party constitution in line with the anti-hopping law.

“The special Umno general assembly will be held after the president's speech on Jan 13 at Dewan Merdeka, Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC),” he said, adding that the 2022 Umno general assembly will run from Jan 11 until Jan 14.
