PETALING JAYA: Flood management in Terengganu remains unaffected even though Mentri Besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar is not in the state, says state disaster committee deputy chairman Hanafiah Mat(pic).

He said he had been carrying out the responsibility to ensure proper coordination during floods over the past few years.

Hanafiah, who is also the state Welfare Women Development, Family and National Unity Committee chairman said he had instructed all state exco members and assemblymen to provide help on the ground and at temporary flood relief centres (PPS).

"I am fully satisfied with the response from the government agencies and coordination by state assemblymen, so there is no issue of there not being enough food or places to seek shelter.

"There may be one or two isolated cases but other than that, things are running smoothly despite the MB's absence," he said.

Asked on Ahmad Samsuri's whereabouts, Hanafiah admitted he was unsure but said he believed he would be back in a day or two.

He said Ahmad Samsuri had visited a few flood relief centres during the first wave of floods from Dec 7 to 14.

"I am not sure if he went to Auckland, but I saw people sharing information on WhatsApp that he is there," he said.

Almost 40,000 people from 10,937 families were affected by flood in Terengganu.

Umno supreme council member Datuk Lokman Adam had claimed that Ahmad Samsuri and his family are on vacation in New Zealand.

Pictures of his flight itinerary and car booking in Aucklands is also making rounds on social media.
