Almost 1,100 registrations so far for Socso housewives scheme, says Human Resource Ministry

PUTRAJAYA: A total of 1,092 housewives were registered over a seven-day period for the Housewives Social Security Scheme (SKSSR), says Human Resource Minister V. Sivakumar.

He said the number was recorded in the first seven days after the scheme was implemented on Dec 1.

The ministry, he added, is targeting 500,000 registrations by next year from the total of 2.9 million housewives nationwide.

"The initiative is open to all women who are Malaysian citizens and permanent residents aged below 55 years. There is no minimum age limit.

"Eligible housewives will have to contribute RM120 per year in advance to receive Domestic Disaster Benefits and Invalidity Benefits for 12 months," he said.

Payments under this scheme range from RM200 to RM50,000, depending on the types of benefit and injuries.

Among the benefits available include for medical, permanent disability, constant-attendance-allowance, facilities for physical or dialysis, funeral benefits and survivors' pension.
