Give new unity govt a chance, says Upko Youth chief

KOTA KINABALU: The new unity government deserves a chance to govern and prove what they can do, says Upko youth chief Felix Joseph Saang.

Saang said he knows there are those who were unhappy about the composition of the new federal cabinet.

“However, this should not be an excuse for anyone to judge the government before they can even start governing and doing their job. They should be given an opportunity to prove themselves,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (Dec 7).

Saang said it was important for people to bear in mind the Federal Government today is known as a unity government, not a Pakatan Harapan government.

“Without the cooperation from these various parties, there will not be a unity government and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim might not have been sworn in as the 10th Prime Minister,” he said.

He said the new government was also formed following the suggested decree of the King, for the sake of political stability and economic recovery.

“His Majesty’s wishes should be respected,” he said.

However, he said any leaders with corruption or power abuse cases must face the court and legal repercussions without any political intervention.

He also called on the government to fulfill their election manifesto especially on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), and solve the rising cost of living faced by the people.

Saang said the efforts to improve the economy needs to start now and the people’s welfare must be the government’s agenda.
