Covid-19 Watch: Cumulative infections in Malaysia surpass five million

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 1,502 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday (Dec 4) bringing total cases up to 5,000,332, says the Health Ministry.

The Health Ministry's KKMNow portal reported that 1,501 of Sunday's new Covid-19 cases were local transmissions with one imported infection logged.

There were 2,093 recoveries on Sunday. This brings the cumulative number of recoveries in Malaysia to 4,941,114 since the pandemic began.

he portal also reported that there were 22,505 active cases currently in the country, with 20,889, or 92.8%, observing home quarantine.

The KKMNow portal reported that 1,512 patients, or 6.7% of the total, were currently admitted to hospital for treatment. The number of Covid-19 patients warded at intensive care units (ICU) throughout the country stands at 104, with 70 of these patients requiring ventilation support.

The ICU utilisation rate nationwide stood at 65.5%, with eight states or localities recording ICU usage rates of more than 60%.

Kedah had the highest ICU utilisation rate at 88.5%, followed by Labuan (85.7%), Johor (83%), Kelantan (80.3%), Selangor (73.2%), Putrajaya (71.4%), Perak (64.6%) and Sabah (62.9%).

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry's GitHub data repository reported that three Covid-19 deaths were reported on Sunday, bringing the death toll to 36,652.
