Former Langkawi MP Nawawi Ahmad passes away


GEORGE TOWN: Former Langkawi MP Datuk Nawawi Ahmad has passed away.

Former Kuah assemblyman Nor Saidi Nanyan said the Langkawi Umno division chief, 61, passed away at about 3am at Frankfurt, Germany on Monday ( Nov 28).

"He was in Frankfurt, Germany on a working visit in his capacity as Tenaga Nasional Berhad board member," he said.

Nor Saidi said Nawawi was accompanied by his wife Datin Sabariah Hassan and his body will be buried at Frankfurt.

Nawawi served as Langkawi MP for one term from 2013 - 2018 and was twice as former Kuah assemblyman from 2004 to 2013.

In the 14th General Election Nawawi lost the Langkawi parliamentary seat to Tun Mahathir Mohamad.

He however didn't contest as candidate during GE15.
