PN will provide checks and balances to unity govt, says Muhyiddin

KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional will provide the checks and balances for the Pakatan Harapan-led unity government, says coalition chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He congratulated Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on being appointed 10th Prime Minister by the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong.

"Perikatan will (present) the voice of the people in line with the principles of a democratic Parliament.

"We will continue to strive for the well-being of the people and the prosperity of the country," he said in a statement on Friday (Nov 25).

On Thursday (Nov 24), the former prime minister had challenged Anwar to prove that he had majority support in the Dewan Rakyat.

In a press conference at Perikatan headquarters here on Thursday, Muhyiddin claimed to have the support of 115 MPs, including 10 from Barisan Nasional and 22 from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

It was reported earlier that the Barisan MPs had retracted their statutory declarations supporting Muhyiddin, while GPS announced on Thursday that it would join the unity government.
