GE15: After polls loss, KJ looks forward to watching World Cup

PETALING JAYA: Despite losing in the Sungai Buloh seat after 14 day of campaigning for the 15th General Election, Khairy Jamaluddin is looking forward to the upcoming Qatar World Cup that kicked off on Sunday (Nov 20).

Khairy also hoped those who became elected representatives after polling on Saturday (Nov 19) would lead with wisdom and compassion, amidst uncertainty across the nation.

“The country needs stability and leadership more than ever. I wish you all the very best.

“I am looking forward to the World Cup on television,” said Khairy in an Instagram post Sunday (Nov 20).

Khairy was also certain that his defeat in Sungai Buloh would not be the end of the road for his political career.

“But, I want to self-reflect on this before I think about what to do next.

“The truth is, I’m exhausted. I haven’t really had time to rest since I was asked to manage the pandemic.

“It’s been a tough two years for me steering the country out of Covid-19,” said Khairy.

Nevertheless, Khairy said it was a privilege to serve the nation during the pandemic and he was grateful that recovery in Malaysia was better than many other countries.

Meanwhile, Khairy said one of the most harrowing things about being a politician is about facing the elections every five years, adding that polls are the basis for a functioning democracy.

“It is also something that tells the politician if they are good enough or otherwise... Those are the rules and you have to accept it when people don’t think you’re good enough to represent them.

“I think I tried my best. But I wasn’t good enough. A loss is a loss, no matter how close you came or how many people express disappointment at your loss,” said Khairy.

Khairy was defeated in Sungai Buloh after polling 48,250 votes against Pakatan Harapan’s Ramanan Ramakrishnan’s 50,943 votes.

It was a seven-cornered fight in Sungai Buloh, where others such as Perikatan Nasional’s Mohd Ghazali Md Hamin polled 29,060 votes against Pejuang’s 823, Parti Rakyat Malaysia 279, while independent candidates Syed Abdul Razak Syed Long Alsagoff and Nurhaslinda Basri polled 165 and 113 respectively.
