JOHOR BARU: Marine police seized 88,460 litres of diesel worth more than RM450,000 during an inspection at a logistics company in Negri Sembilan, after finding that its storage exceeded the permitted quantity.
Marine Police Region II commander Asst Comm Noor Azman Jamal said the operation was conducted at about 11.30am on Tuesday (Oct 20) based on information from the public.
He said the Marine Intelligence Unit, in collaboration with the Negri Sembilan Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry enforcement team, inspected the company’s premises on Jalan Kuala Sawah in Rantau.
"Checks found diesel stored in tanker lorries, skid tanks and a square tank," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Oct 21).
ACP Noor Azman said the 35-year-old owner of the premises possessed documents under the Petroleum Development Act 1974 and the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
"However, the quantity of diesel stored exceeded the permitted limit.
"The owner also failed to produce a stock book during the inspection," he added.
ACP Noor Azman said among the items seized were a trailer, a lorry, three skid tanks with a capacity of 20,000 litres each, two skid tanks with a capacity of 10,000 litres each and a square tank.
He added that the total estimated value of the seizure, including the diesel and other items, was more than RM1.26mil.
ACP Noor Azman said investigations were being conducted under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
"The arrest and seized items have been handed over to the ministry's enforcement officers for further action," he added.
He said the Marine Police Region II would continue to crack down on the misuse and misappropriation of subsidised fuel to prevent losses to the country and protect the interests of the public.
"The efforts are also aimed at safeguarding domestic supply to ensure the well-being of the people," he said.
ACP Noor Azman urged the public to continue providing information on activities that violated the country’s laws and regulations to help maintain public safety and order.
