IPOH: Perak police have received a report from a 44-year-old man over photographs of him with Barisan Nasional candidates being circulated on social media with defamatory remarks.
State police chief Datuk Comm Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the man received a call from an aide who informed him about his photo with the politicians and the offending words.
The politicians in the pictures were Barisan's Lumut parliamentary candidate Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir along with Mohd Rafiq Mohd and Datuk Norzaman Manm who are contesting the Pasir Panjang and Pangkor state seats respectively.
“We are investigating the case under Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation, and under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998," he said.
On another matter, he said all campaigning activities for the 15th General Election (GE15) must stop by 11.59pm on Friday (Nov 18).
“To ensure candidates do not campaign past midnight, police will continue to monitor and take stern action if there are still campaigning activities past that time,” he added.
He also advised the public to drive carefully and follow all the rules and regulations when going to cast their votes.
“After voting, please leave the area and do not cause unnecessary traffic congestion at the polling stations,” he added.
