PORT DICKSON: Dr Ahmad Idham Ahmad Nadzri (pic) wants to make Port Dickson the country's top tourism destination if elected as its Member of Parliament in the national polls on Saturday (Nov 19).
The Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) candidate said this was achievable because the resort town has all the characteristics needed to occupy the top spot.
"I have done my homework and have visited every constituency in PD since Nomination Day to learn the real problems there," he said.
The actor, director and producer said the development plan for Port Dickson should be reviewed to bring it on par with other top tourism destinations such as Langkawi which was known internationally.
Ahmad Idham, who received his doctorate in management from Universiti Utara Malaysia on Nov 6, said among the shortcomings he came across in the resort town were poor infrastructure and basic amenities as well as abandoned projects.
"PD has lots of potential and can also be turned into a top moviemaking destination, for example.

"But we will have to resolve the problems first before we can transform PD," he said.
Ahmad Idham said his other priorities were to make Port Dickson a hub for special education and friendly to the physically challenged.
The former National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) chief executive also wants to create more economic opportunities in the constituency, particularly in the tourism sector.
"This is the time to bring change to PD," he said.
Ahmad Idham will be involved in a five-cornered fight for the seat which has remained a Pakatan Harapan stronghold since 2008.
Joining him in the ring are Mentri Besar and Pakatan candidate Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, state PAS commissioner Rafiei Mustapha of Perikatan Nasional, Barisan Nasional's Datuk P. Kamalanathan, and social activist Abdul Rani Kulup, contesting as an Independent.
In a 2018 by-election, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim won the seat with a whopping 23,560-vote majority in a multi-cornered fight, surpassing the 17,710-vote majority obtained by the previous MP Datuk Danyal Balagopal in GE14.
