GEORGE TOWN: Motorists do not need to pay parking fees at all Penang Smart Parking (PSP) lots in Penang island on Friday (Nov 18) and Saturday (Nov 19), says Datuk Yew Tung Seang.
The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) mayor said the free parking announcement was in line with the announcement made by caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob who had declared Nov 18 and 19 as public holidays.
"Motorists who park their vehicles at the PSP lots in Penang island do not have to pay parking fees on those two announced dates," he said after chairing the MBPP special meeting on Tuesday (Nov 15).
Meanwhile, in conjunction with polling day for the 15th General Election (GE15) on Saturday, Penang Hill Corporation (PHC) would provide free round-trip funicular services to encourage voters who vote at Dataran Bukit Bendera to fulfil their obligations.
In a statement Tuesday (Nov 15), PHC said in conjunction with GE15, free round-trip funicular service (fast track) would be provided to voters who needed to vote at Dataran Bukit Bendera.
"The free funicular rides will be given based on the electoral roll.
"Voters who vote at Dataran Bukit Bendera must first register at the special counter at the lower station to confirm their identity.
"Then, the staff will take them to the cable car.
"In addition to voters, PHC will provide free round-trip funicular services to civil servants and staff who must be on duty so that voting can proceed smoothly.
"Penang Hill is a wheelchair-friendly tourist destination.
"If voters need to use a wheelchair, they can ask the PHC staff on duty.
"PHC hopes that by allowing voters to use the funicular train for free, all voters who must go to Dataran Bukit Bendera to cast their ballots will be encouraged to fulfil their civic duty on polling day," it read.
The earliest service is at 6.30 am, and voting time is from 8am to 6pm.
