Warisan’s lone candidate in Negri aims to develop Kuala Pilah

Getting personal: Azman speaking with a voter during his walkabout in Kuala Pilah.

SEREMBAN: Datuk Azman Idris may be Warisan’s sole candidate in Negri Sembilan, but the businessman is far from rattled that he will be up against the well-oiled machinery of his rivals in Kuala Pilah.

The state Warisan pro-tem committee chairman has rated his chances as fair, although this is the first time his party is contesting a seat in the state and against more established opponents.

“I have been telling people my plans to develop Kuala Pilah during my walkabouts.

“I must say they are impressed,” he said, adding that the fact he was a businessman who knew the workings of the economy would also work to his advantage.

Azman said those vying for the seat should have a clear economic plan for the strategically-located constituency.

He said he hardly saw youths during his visits to places like Air Mawang, Johol, Dangi and Senaling, and this was unfortunate as the constituency had lots of potential for development.

“The youth have all moved out as there are no jobs here.

“We need to stop this migration and the only way to do this is to bring in investors to Kuala Pilah,” he added.

Azman said since he was the only one from his party contesting in Negri Sembilan, members from other divisions have been helping him to campaign.

He said it has been two years since Warisan expanded to Kuala Pilah and he has been getting a warm reception from the people.

“Also, I do not believe in holding big ceramah to get support.

“Mine will be more personal. I am going to walk everyday to meet as many voters as I can,” he said.

Azman will be up against Perikatan Nasional’s Datuk Eddin Syazlee Shith who won the seat with a 200-vote majority during GE14.

Eddin, who is with Bersatu, won the seat when the party was then with Pakatan Harapan.

Joining the duo are Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Adnan Abu Hassan, Pakatan’s Nor Azman Mohamad and Gerakan Tanah Air’s Kamarulzaman Kamdias.

Adnan is also Senaling assemblyman while Nor Azman is press secretary to Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.
