PETALING JAYA: PAS, and by extension Perikatan Nasional, are using race, religion and misogynistic approaches in their attempts try to win over voters, says Lim Guan Eng.
The DAP national chairman accused PAS' Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor of having an extremist and misogynistic attitude towards women.
"Not only does Muhammad Sanusi not respect women, he even insults and ridicules them as unfit for higher office or being elected as an MP," he said
"This continues a long line of extremist and racist statements by PAS leaders including its president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang," he alleged in a statement on Saturday (Nov 12).
Lim said adopting such a hardline, extremist stance against women negates and disregards the crucial role women play in the development of the country.
He added that Perikatan, which includes Bersatu and Gerakan as well as STAR and SAPP from Sabah, supports such PAS leaders.
Lim also condemned PAS for irresponsibly misusing religion for political advantage, citing the example of Sik PAS Youth chief Mohd Shahiful Mhd Nasir warning voters they would "go to hell" if they voted for Barisan Nasional or Pakatan Harapan candidates instead of Perikatan's.
"PAS and Perikatan should be rejected ... for not only using race and religion but also throwing in misogyny to try to win," he said.
He said a video of PAS central election director Muhammad Sanusi belittling female candidates vying for the Sik parliamentary seat had also been circulating on social media.
