Bus ferrying 60 UPSI students crashes into ravine, 11 hurt

IPOH: A bus carrying about 60 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students crashed into a ravine on Jalan Slim Lama, injuring 11 people.

Muallim OCPD Supt Mohd Hasni Mohd Nasir said those injured in the 7.30pm incident on Wednesday (Nov 9) included the bus driver.

"All of them sustained light injuries and have been sent to the Slim River Hospital for treatment.

"The cause of the accident is being investigated, with a full report to follow," he said in a brief statement.

A check in the area showed that the stretch of road does not have street lights.

MCA deputy president Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon, who happened to pass by the area during his campaign rounds, stopped to check on the situation.

"It is a relief that all the students and the driver are safe.

"This is exactly why I made a promise to brighten up the major roads (in Tanjung Malim) as stated in my manifesto," said Dr Mah, who is contesting the Tanjung Malim parliamentary seat.

"Well-lit roads can help prevent accidents," he added.
