BENTONG: Barisan Nasional’s manifesto for the 15th General Election (GE15) is pragmatic and not mere "sweet promises" made to the people, says Tan Sri Liow Tiong Lai (pic).
The Barisan candidate for Bentong said unlike Pakatan Harapan's manifesto, Barisan's was realistic and achievable.
"We are practical," he said after attending a dialogue session with the Chinese community here.
MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong had said that Barisan's election manifesto, Padu (Perancangan Amal dan Usaha BN), were not empty promises and that the coalition was determined to eradicate poverty and ensure the end of poverty.
"China has done a good job in this regard, with a range of policies to assist the people, not just to give a man a fish but to teach (its own B40 group) to fish."
The Barisan manifesto pledges sweeping reforms and contains 99 points and means to turn Malaysia into a developed nation.
Among others, Barisan pledges to amend the Federal Constitution to include automatic citizenship for children born to Malaysian women abroad.
In his earlier speech, Liow said PAS' decision not to dissolve the state assemblies of Kelantan and Terengganu was to focus its efforts in Pahang.
"If Perikatan Nasional wins the state, the coalition will choose a PAS leader as Pahang mentri besar. The impact on Chinese voters will be profound," he said.
Liow also said that this was his last chance to contest in Bentong and urged the people to allow him to serve them.
Liow's plans to continue the development of Bentong and build better connectivity by pushing for the area to be included in the East Coast Rail Line (ECRL) link.
Liow was Bentong MP from 1999 to 2018.
Liow will square off against candidates from Pakatan Harapan, Perikatan Nasional and two Independent candidates in a five-cornered tussle.
