Gerakan Tanah Air names 121 candidates

PETALING JAYA: Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) has named 121 parliamentary candidates for the general election.

Its pro-tem chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said GTA would contest using the Pejuang logo and flag, except in Kelantan where the Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra) logo would be used.

Dr Mahathir was officially named as the candidate for Langkawi, which he had won in GE14.

GTA is made up of four political parties, namely Pejuang, Putra, Berjasa and Iman.

Pejuang president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir will defend his Jerlun seat.

His deputy, Datuk Marzuki Yahya, will contest in Sungai Petani.

Pejuang secretary-general Datuk Amiruddin Hamzah will defend his Kubang Pasu seat, while Pejuang Wanita chief Datin Che Asmah Ibrahim was announced as the candidate for Sepang.

Putra president Ibrahim Ali will contest in Rantau Panjang, Berjasa president Zamani Ibrahim in Tampin and Iman president Mohammed Mosin Abdul Razak in Merbok.

Actors Ahmad Idham Ahmad Nadzri and Eizlan Yusof, and activist Lando Zawawi were also named as GTA candidates.

Ahmad Idham will contest in Port Dickson, Eizlan in Sabak Bernam and Lando – whose real name is Azlan Sani Zawawi – will vie for Tanjung Karang.

GTA also named 11 candidates from the NGO Gagasan Bangsa, with one of them, Aminuddin Yahaya, going for the Temerloh seat.

Dr Mahathir said he was quite confident of GTA’s prowess.

Marzuki said the candidates for the dissolved state assemblies would be announced by the respective state leaders.
