KLANG: One of the constituencies that is worth watching in the upcoming general election is Kuala Langat due to its ensemble of candidates.
Whilst Pakatan Harapan is fielding former Kapar MP Manivannan Gowin and Barisan Nasional has named MIC Wanita chief Datuk Mohana Muniandy as its candidate, a third candidate fighting for the same seat is a name to be reckoned with.
Perikatan Nasional has named Selangor PAS commissioner Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi as its candidate for the Kuala Langat seat.
Dr Ahmad Yunus, is also the assemblyman for Sijangkang, which is a state seat under Kuala Langat.
The medical practitioner, who is a local boy, also runs a clinic and a dialysis centre in the parliamentary district’s Telok Panglima Garang town.
“It is going to be a difficult task for Manivannan and Mohana to take on Dr Ahmad Yunus and there is a great possibility the seat will leave Pakatan’s grasp this time around,’’ said a local source.
He added Dr Ahmad Yunus’ biggest plus point is that the constituents have easy access to him as he works and lives in the same area.
Besides being the Sijangkang assemblyman for three terms, Dr Ahmad Yunus was also a state executive council member under former mentri besar the late Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim during the Pakatan Rakyat era.
The source also said there may be some protests from members of the Kuala Langat MIC branches who had had their hearts set on a young lawyer from the district’s Banting town.
“He is very active in the area and many MIC members feel he will be better suited to contest for the Kuala Langat seat,’’ added the source.
There is a possibility that the seat may also be contested by Independent candidates.
