PKR's Johari Abdul is new Kedah Opposition leader


ALOR SETAR: Gurun representative Datuk Johari Abdul (pic) has been named as the new Kedah Opposition leader in the state assembly, replacing Alor Mengkudu assemblyman Datuk Phahrolrazi Mohd Zawawi.

Johari said he was thankful for the opportunity and would encourage his fellow Pakatan Harapan representatives to be a constructive force in the assembly.

"God willing, I will do my best to contribute to our state," he told a press conference at the state assembly building here on Monday (Oct 31).

He also thanked Phahrolrazi for his contributions and promised to continue the work he had begun.

He said the Speaker had also asked him and other Pakatan representatives to decide on the seating arrangements for the next sitting of the assembly beginning Tuesday (Nov 1).

Johari, from PKR, was chosen to be new Opposition chief after Phahrolrazi was sacked as state Amanah chief on Sunday (Oct 30) for going against the party's interests and violating its Constitution.

With Phahrolrazi now an independent, Pakatan is left with 10 seats in the 36-seat assembly – five for PKR, three for Amanah and two for DAP.

PAS has 15 seats, Bersatu six and Umno, two.

Pejuang, which is also in the Opposition, has two seats.
