KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Peter Anthony has announced he will contest the Tenom interior seat, marking his foray into national politics.
The Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) president also announced that the party would contest the Keningau and Pensiangan seats in the interior.
This means the newly-established party led by the former Warisan vice-president will contest seven seats for now, after announcing it will field candidates in the Kota Kinabalu, Sepanggar, Kimanis and Kota Marudu parliamentary seats.
“I will be contesting for the first time at the parliamentary level,” Anthony said to rousing applause from party supporters during a KDM event in Tenom yesterday.
“We will also contest the Pensiangan and Keningau seats.
“I will announce the candidates for these seats on Nov 2 – I already have the candidates on my list.
“We must contest these seats because if not, it will be difficult times for the people, especially in the interior,” he added.
At a press conference later, he said he might be announcing other seats that KDM would contest next week.
“We’ll see if we have the suitable candidates, we will announce then,” he added.
It is understood that Papar was among the other seats KDM was eyeing.
Meanwhile, a former civil servant was named the Warisan candidate for Ranau.
Markos Siton, 67, whose last posting was as director of the Human Resource Development Department, will go up against incumbent Datuk Jonathan Yasin, who was previously from PKR but defected to Bersatu in March 2020.
Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal announced this during a programme in Ranau yesterday.
