GE15: Consider allowing Tawfik Ismail to contest under Pakatan banner, says Kit Siang

PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan should consider allowing Tawfik Ismail (pic) to contest under the coalition’s ticket in Bagan Datuk, says Lim Kit Siang.

In a statement on Monday (Oct 24), Lim said Pakatan’s Presidential Council should give a proper, positive response to Tawfik’s request to contest under the Pakatan banner against Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi during the 15th general election (GE15).

“This will be an excellent way to highlight the theme of GE15,” said the DAP advisor

Tawfik - the former Sungai Besut MP - has said he would contest against Ahmad Zahid in Bagan Datuk, adding that he was among the line-up of Gerak Independent (GI) candidates for GE15.

"I will contest against him in Bagan Datuk or anywhere he runs. I will call on all Malaysians who hate corruption to see my fight as their fight," said Tawfik.

Tawfik also recently expressed his interest to contest under the Pakatan banner during GE15.

“I was at the Pakatan convention last Thursday and informed its leaders of this. I am now hoping to meet PH chairman Anwar Ibrahim soon," he was quoted saying by a news portal.
