GEORGE TOWN: It is highly likely that Nurul Izzah Anwar will defend the Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election (GE15).
"The possibility is in that direction (Nurul defending Permatang Pauh), a big possibility, a very big one," PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim told reporters during a press conference at the Penang PKR fund raising dinner at the Setia Spice Convention Centre on Saturday (Oct 22) night.
There had been talk that his daughter, Nurul Izzah, would contest in Ampang, with PKR Wanita chief Senator Fadhlina Sidek replacing her in Permatang Pauh.
Nurul Izzah had previously voiced her intention to defend the seat in the upcoming GE15 but that the final decision would be made by the party leadership.
In GE14, Nurul Izzah won the seat after defeating Barisan Nasional's Datuk Mohd Zaidi Said and PAS's Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden with a 15,668-vote majority.
She is the current leadership council chairman for three northern states of Perlis, Kedah and Penang.
On seat negotiations between Pakatan component parties, Anwar said it was mostly completed with only a few more still being discussed.
"After discussions are completed, each state election committee will start the vetting process before it comes to me," he said.
Also present during the event were Nurul Izzah, Penang Pakatan chairman Chow Kon Yeow and other state Pakatan leaders. About 2,500 PKR members and supporters attended the dinner.
