GE15: Umno rubbishes talk of Zahid not defending Bagan Datuk seat

PETALING JAYA: Umno has denied reports that its president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will not be defending his Bagan Datuk parliamentary seat in the general election.

Describing such talk as "political propaganda", party executive secretary Datuk Sumali Reduan said the matter has never been raised.

Sinar Harian recently reported that Ahmad Zahid may not be contesting in the coming polls.

The 69-year-old Umno president has held the Bagan Datuk seat for four terms since 1995.

The daily reported that it is believed the person to replace Ahmad Zahid as Barisan Nasional’s candidate for the constituency is Ahmad Zahid’s daughter Nurulhidayah.

A right hand man of Ahmad Zahid, who was not named in the report, was said to be another person being considered for the seat.
